Faculty members whose focus is on women and gender often utilize an intersectional and interdisciplinary approach grounded in Black/Africana feminist theory. Using a range of sources and methods, we begin from the premise that women and men’s material lived realities are shaped by their gender, race, class, sexuality, age, religion and geographical location. In our respective scholarship and teaching, we underscore and interrogate taken for granted assumptions about Black women in the United States, and other geographical locations (Brazil, Caribbean, and Canada) that constitutes the larger African Diaspora. We also emphasize the multiple and varied strategies, B
