Undergraduate Admissions

Undergraduate Major

Students wishing to enroll in the African American Studies major should proceed through the campus admissions process.

AFRO offers courses in History, Gender and Women's Studies, Sociology, Psychology, English, Journalism, Anthropology, and more! We welcome all who are interested in learning more about the African American experience. If you are considering AFRO as a major, please come by the AFRO Department or contact us via email or phone, we are happy to answer any questions you might have.

Undergraduate Minor

Students wishing to enroll in the Minor program will need to be accepted in a major program before making an appointment to meet with an advisor by contacting afro-public@illinois.edu.

Should you choose to declare an African American Studies minor, we strongly encourage you to speak with Dr. Jenkins, our undergraduate student advisor, to discuss your plan for course options and enrollment prior to officially declaring the minor.
