Two of the Department of African American Studies' very own, Professors Mary Phillips and Bobby J Smith II, have been selected as part of the cohort for The OpEd Project Public Voices Fellowship 2025-26! The program is in its seventh year. "The fellowship is a unique opportunity led by The OpEd Project. The program is part of a national initiative to help faculty amplify their expertise in ways that can contribute to public conversations about pressing issues." (Office of the Provost, 2025, DDDH Notices).
The Public Voices Fellowship is a year-long program that provides a cohort of 20 thought leaders, with the intent of improving representation in the field, with extraordinary support, leadership skills, and knowledge to ensure their ideas shape not only their fields but also the greater public conversations of our age."(EVP/VP for Academic Affairs, 2025, OpEd Project/Public Voices Fellowship section).
